How We Created a Circular Economy Film in 3 Days

No headings found on page

Most awareness campaigns take weeks to produce.

This one took three days.

Not because we cut corners.

Because we approached production differently.

At YM Labs, we're building an AI-native production studio. To test what was possible, we challenged ourselves with a simple brief:

Create a film about the circular economy.

No client.

No budget.

Just an idea.

Starting with a Story, not a message

The circular economy is often explained through diagrams, statistics, and corporate presentations.

Useful.

But rarely memorable.

We wanted to create something people would actually feel.

So instead of talking about recycling systems, waste management, or sustainability targets, we focused on a single object:

A plastic bag.

A completely ordinary object that most people interact with for a few seconds before forgetting it exists.

What if we followed that bag after it left someone's hand?

That question became the foundation of the film.

Building the campaign in 72 hours

The entire project was produced in three days.

Day one was dedicated to concept development, storyboarding, and defining the visual language.

Day two focused on production and iteration.

Not shooting.

Iterating.

Testing environments.

Refining camera movements.

Adjusting compositions.

Making sure the film felt cinematic rather than synthetic.

Day three was dedicated to editing, sound design, pacing, and final delivery.

The goal wasn't simply to generate images.

The goal was to create a coherent narrative that felt emotionally authentic.

Like any good commercial or brand film, the technology was secondary to the story.

The challenge we didn't expect

Halfway through production, we realised something important.

The protagonist was a European woman.

The film looked good.

The story worked.

But it felt disconnected from the audience we wanted to reach.

The campaign was intended for the UAE market.

And although the message was universal, the visuals weren't.

People connect more deeply with stories when they recognise themselves in them.

Not just through language.

Through faces, environments, culture, and everyday details.

Localising the Campaign for the UAE

At the last minute, we made a decision.

We rebuilt the protagonist and adjusted several scenes to better reflect the region.

This wasn't translation.

It was localisation.

The story remained identical.

The message remained identical.

But the emotional impact changed significantly.

What had started as a generic awareness film became something that felt much closer to home.

It's a reminder that effective campaigns are rarely about reaching everyone.

They're about making the right audience feel seen.

Why AI changes creative production

The most interesting part wasn't the speed.

It was the flexibility.

In a traditional production workflow, changing a lead character near the end of a project would typically require additional casting, reshoots, crew time, logistics, and budget.

With an AI-native production workflow, major creative decisions can happen much later in the process.

Ideas can evolve.

Stories can adapt.

Campaigns can be localised for different audiences without rebuilding everything from scratch.

That creative agility is what excites us most.

The future of Circular Economy campaigns

Governments, brands, and organisations are investing heavily in sustainability and circular economy initiatives.

The challenge isn't creating more information.

It's creating stories people actually remember.

This project started as an experiment.

A simple challenge to see how quickly a meaningful film could be created using modern tools.

Three days later, we had our answer.

The future of production isn't just faster.

It's more adaptable, more accessible, and more creative than ever before.

And we're only getting started.

Your next campaign shouldn't take 6 WEEKS OR 6 FIGURES.
